Sunset Park Anti-Airport, Inc.
Advocating removal of 2000 feet of runway, termination of aviation leases, and severe reductions of flight operations.

About Sunset Park Anti-Airport, Inc.

Sunset Park Anti-Airport, Inc. was set up to try to bring about change at Santa Monica Airport (SMO) consistent with the wishes expressed by the local community in three separate surveys which show that over 80% of respondents want aviation activities at SMO reduced, mitigated, or shut down completely.

Here and here are detailed pictures of what we hope for.

Your proposal makes no sense. The airport was there before any of you were. Removing 2,000 feet of a 4900 foot runway will severely impact safety. Your proposal puts peoples lives in danger not just at the airport, but on the ground.

You clearly don’t understand aviation or the economic value it brings to the community. Do everyone a favor and don’t get involved in things that you don’t understand.

I’m dissapointed with these plans. General aviation is the heart of American industry. Shutting down the airport, or even reducing it in size in turn reduces the importance of your community. Airport land is a valuable hub for commerce, as important as any seaport. By downsizing the airport, you downsize the value of your own neighborhood.

Jonathan, I attended your “Meet the candidates BBQ” on Oct 18. Thanks for organizing. We are having a Block Party on Sunday Oct 28 from 1-5pm, on 22nd St, between Pico and Pearl, and was wondering if you could swing by to chat to our neighbors about SPAA, and your goals for the closing the Airport. Thanks Michael

Bravo! Are you the attorney who spoke at one of the “visioning” workshops? I think it may have been you who were advocating closing (and constructing a fence along) the SM owned parcel. Take it back and simply stop maintaining it. I’d love to help in what ever way I can.

This is Jonathan Stein. I formed SPAA to accomplish the following goals for my family and my neighbors:
•Closing 2000 feet of runway needed to land jets immediately upon termination of the 1984 Agreement in July 2015.
•Allowing all flight school leases and fixed-based aviation leases to expire according to their terms in July 2015.
•Begin immediately to restrict flight operations by 50%.
•Use vacated land primarily for parkland and public open space.
While the really good people at CASMAT and CRAAP are neighborhood organizations, SPAA is registered as FPPC #1352050, to better comply with campaign laws. — Jonathan.
